Symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction

How do you know if your pelvic floor is not working properly ? What are the symptoms?

There are a wide variety of symptoms that women can experience if they have pelvic floor dysfunction. Women can have one or more of the following symptoms. This list is not exhaustive, so please contact me to discuss your pelvic health concern if they are not listed.

Stress urinary incontinence (accidental bladder leakage with cough/sneeze/laugh/lifting/walking or with exercise.

Urinary urgency (having to rush to the toilet to pass urine)

Urinary frequency (going to the toilet a lot to pass urine)

Urgency urinary Incontinence (having to rush to the toilet and having accidental wee on the way)

Nocturia ( waking at night to pass urine)

Voiding difficulties ( difficulty passing urine, straining to empty, slow stream, long time to empty, feeling of not emptying fully)

Vaginal prolapse (feeling of something falling down, bulging, heaviness or dragging in the vagina)

Vaginisimus ( tightening of the muscles in response to intercourse or an object such as a tampon penetrating the vagina)

Faecal Incontinence (accidental bowel leakage)

Flatal incontinence (accidental leakage of wind from backpassage)

Vaginal flatus (accidental leakage of wind from the vagina)

Painful intercourse (sex)

Lack of sensation during sex

Coital incontinence (Leaking wee during sex)

Pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain (pain in the pelvis (at front/sides or back) that starts in pregnancy and that can persist after delivery)

Back pain during pregnancy or postnatally
